# Markdown editor with live preview for macOS — TinyMD

> Edit Markdown in tabs, compare formatted previews side by side, export offline PDFs or images, convert office documents locally, and choose from 22 built-in themes on macOS.

## Workflows

### Edit local Markdown files directly

Open and save plain text files on your disk without databases or proprietary formats.

- **Multi-tab workspace**: Keep multiple documents open in one window, each with its own history and scroll position.
- **Reliable CJK typing**: Input method composition stays intact during typing: no caret jumps or lost characters.

### Compare source and preview side by side

Edit Markdown on the left and read rendered output on the right, synchronized as you scroll.

- **Import 21 document formats**: Convert Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, RTF, EPUB, CSV, and PDF files into Markdown locally.
- **Export offline PDFs and images**: Generate A4 PDFs using system fonts offline, or export WebP and JPEG images at 390 px and 800 px.

### Finder and Quick Look

Press Space in Finder to preview documents, or convert files to Markdown from the Finder Services menu.

- **Keyboard-first desktop controls**: Switch tabs, open documents, and run editor actions with standard macOS keyboard shortcuts.
- **No network needed to write or export**: No accounts and no mandatory cloud sync. Writing, reading, and default exports make no network requests.

## Local files and explicit network boundaries

- Anonymous usage statistics cover 4 events and never include note text, filenames, or paths. Turn them off anytime in Settings ▸ Privacy.
- Network access is limited to anonymous stats, update checks, and remote images you explicitly fetch. Stats and automatic checks can be disabled.
- Default PDF and image exports run completely offline without network requests.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does TinyMD run on Intel Macs, Windows, or Linux?

The TinyMD desktop app currently supports macOS 15.3 or later on Apple silicon. Linux builds are experimental (Exp). The download page displays the packages actually published for each release.

### Does TinyMD support multiple windows and session restore?

TinyMD operates as a single window with multiple tabs and does not support tearing tabs into separate windows. When you quit or reopen the app, session persistence restores your workspace, including open tabs, scroll positions, and unsaved edits.

### Why do remote images or SVGs appear as placeholders in exported PDFs?

Default PDF export operates offline using system fonts, leaving remote image URLs as placeholders without making network requests. To download online images during export, choose “Export PDF (with external resources)” from the menu. SVG images currently render as placeholders, and animated images display their first frame.

### What usage data does TinyMD send?

TinyMD never transmits your document text, filenames, or file paths. By default, the app reports 4 anonymous usage events (launch, open, export, theme change) with a random UUID v4 device ID and an operating system User-Agent. As with any internet connection, the destination server receives your public IP address at the transport layer. You can disable all usage reporting with a single toggle in Settings ▸ Privacy.

### Can I run scripts or render raw HTML inside notes?

No. Raw HTML tags in Markdown documents are displayed as plain text and will not execute JavaScript or render inline web elements.
